Tattoo Aftercare – How to Look After Your New Tattoo Properly

Getting a new tattoo is exciting, but proper aftercare is essential to make sure your tattoo heals well and looks its best for years to come. At our tattoo studio in Clitheroe, we always stress that aftercare is just as important as the tattoo itself.

The First 24 Hours

After your tattoo is completed, your artist will cover it with a protective wrap. This helps keep bacteria out and allows the skin to begin healing. Leave this on for the recommended time, usually a few hours.

Once removed, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean towel — never rub.

Ongoing Tattoo Aftercare

For the next 2–3 weeks:

  • Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare cream

  • Keep the area clean and dry

  • Avoid tight clothing over the tattoo

  • Do not scratch or pick scabs

Avoid swimming, saunas, and sun exposure while healing. This is especially important for clients visiting our tattoo Lancashire studio during summer months.

What Not to Do

  • Don’t soak your tattoo

  • Don’t apply scented lotions

  • Don’t expose it to direct sunlight

Following these steps will ensure your tattoo heals cleanly and stays bold. If you ever have questions, your tattoo artist in Clitheroe is always happy to help.
